MySQL was named after co-founder Monty Widenius's daughter, My. It was originally written as a backwards compatible replacement for mSQL. It is written in C, C++ and yacc. It has become popular for use in web applications. MySQL supports a broad subset of ANSI SQL 99 and features views, stored procedures, triggers, cursors, replication, internationalisation and localisation, partitioning, ACID transactions.
