cosmic rays

<electronics, humour>

A notional cause of bit rot that may be invoked as a humorous explanation of minor randomness, as in "Hey, Eric, what caused this burst of garbage on my tube?" "Cosmic rays, I guess."

Similar unlikely explanations include sunspots and the phase of the moon. Cosmic rays may cause bit rot in spaceborne computers however, and, even on Earth, alpha particles can cause bit rot.
